Reddit is now Closed Source.

Today Reddit announced that they will no longer be open sourced. On their changelog they claimed the reason was that they simply couldn't handle being open sourced anymore, and that by being open sourced they were at a disadvantage.

That is, of course, utter nonsense. Android and Linux succeeded because of their open source code. And in the Case of Linux, it's Libre and open source nature.

There is only one reason to make your code proprietary, control. Remember that Spez abused his power, shadow editing those who insulted him, in an effort to troll them.

Reddits slow March from being a beacon of Free Speech, to controlling and censoring those who might hurt the profit of the company at the expense of their users reenforces what the Steemit community represents. Traditional Centralized server based systems are unable to preserve freedom. By their very nature they are easily corrupted and turned against their users. Open Source isn't sufficient to prevent this as all it can guarantee is free labor for the company. Only through Libre software and through the use of the block chain, can true freedom be achieved in our modern era.
