Love him or hate him, John McAffee, the former McAffee anti-virus founder, is a golden mine for media. Especially for crypto related media. Just when you thought he ran out of crazy ideas to write about (like the one in which he asked for more than $100,000 for a promotional tweet) here he comes, with something even crazier.
In a tweet posted yesterday, McAffee announced he will launch his own crypto currency, called, obviously, the McAffee (or McAffee Redemption Unit) on June 25th.
He even posted some low res prototypes for the notes (because this will also be a "fiat backed" crypto):
The funniest thing about this whole show is that, if you want a real note, you have to go to an address in Mexico, between 1PM and 3PM, and there you will get instruction on how to redeem your tokens "everywhere" in the world. To be honest, I didn't dig more into this, as I put it in the "PR stunt" category, and not in the "legit, interesting crypto tokens to follow" category, but the whole setup is, you have to admit it, hilarious.
There's a mix of burlesque, harsh technical skills and plain craziness, that makes McAffee interesting to watch.
From a distance.
