Hive in the News - The importance of decentralisation for web3

News about Hive in Spanish-spoken regions.

There is an excellent post about Hive at the Spanish cointelegraph site

I decided to translate this post to help to spread the word. Therefore I used deepl.com and some Grammarly and some functions in Markdown to make this easier to read.

Hive stresses the importance of decentralization for web3

Hive governance considers that some web3 proposals are really centralised solutions.

Web3 has become one of the most talked about technology topics over the last three years, the race for the development of the new decentralized internet has become an interesting competition that has been embraced by different proposals that each, in their way, contribute.

Hive, a DPOS (delegated proof of stake) blockchain, is one of those proposals that are working for the development and dissemination of web3 in the world, for this reason, to know a little more about its proposal, work, and perspectives we have talked to the governance and some representative members of the project in Venezuela, a country where it has an important presence.

The development of the web3

First, before outlining their strengths from Hive's governance, they pointed out that many other projects claim to offer Web3 solutions, but in their view, they are simply launching a traditional-style centralized service that is essentially only superficially Web3.

"Hive can offer real decentralization, because all Hive nodes are operated autonomously by individuals worldwide, with no centralized control over them. If a major incident affects nodes in one area, others will pick up the slack with no impact on the blockchain." noted Hive governance.

"Hive has no CEO and no board of directors. There is no corporation to go bust and terminate the project. Hive was founded by a large community of blockchain enthusiasts with unique goals and therefore leverages the strength of diversity. This also leads to broad innovation," they added.

Project progress

After making it known that Hive is a DPOS (delegated proof of stake) blockchain, governance highlighted that most of the protocol developments in Hive are aimed at driving optimization and ensuring the construction of a system that can be sustainable over time.

"With Hive's OBI (one-block irreversibility), it allows transactions to be confirmed within milliseconds after signing, for example. This is ideal for all kinds of applications, games, and point of sale," they explained while stressing that the lack of transaction fees and the presence of 3-second irreversible blocks meant that anyone can contribute without incurring undue hindrance.

Prospects for 2023

According to Hive's governance, the project is immune to market influences and the objectives are always the same, i.e. to promote decentralization and inspire others to see it as a tangible solution in many different ways.

According to them, Hive members regularly form projects and try to make a difference in their local communities. Examples of this, they tell us, are nine water wells being built in Ghana in nine different villages where they are providing water to thousands of people at no cost; and two schools being set up on opposite sides of the world to provide programs designed to introduce young minds to the Web3.

"All of this was done by the Hive community leveraging the funding capabilities of the protocol and without any corporate authority," they commented, stating that the idea was to continue working and developing based on this philosophy.

Hive's potential in Latin America and Spain

Within the Latin American context, Marco Mogollón, Hive builder @fermionico assisted by governance, explained that in this region, the project has already grown to the point of having close to a hundred businesses and services, most of which are located in Venezuela, that already accept $HIVE and $HBD as a form of payment directly and not through third party payment gateways.

"The acceptance of $HIVE and $HBD as payment methods is spreading rapidly in Latin America in recent months and we are also seeing their adoption in Peru, Cuba, Colombia, and Mexico," said Mogollón.

On the other hand, they also exposed that in Venezuela and Spain, there are powerful Web3 educational programs carried out by members of the Hive community. One of them, Hive Goes to School, is based in both countries and has obtained surprising results over the last year that have encouraged them to continue their development.

"Hive will continue to move forward and develop interactions within Latin America and Spain, now and in the future. This year we will hold our largest annual community meeting and conference, HiveFest, in Rosarito, Mexico, from 22-26 September" they said.

Finally, Hive's governance highlighted the work done in Venezuela specifically, as they felt that their "owner" community has put down solid roots, reached milestones that have pleasantly surprised them, and has been seen as an example for the global community.

"Hive has large and very active local communities in Distrito Capital, Aragua, Carabobo, Lara, Zulia, Táchira, Anzoátegui, Monagas, and Sucre. But more Venezuelans are joining our ecosystem every day and we are confident that the country will continue to be the place in Latin America where Hive will be adopted the fastest," they said.

"Being a key country for the growth of Hive, through interactions with consensus witnesses and leading app developers, to greatly reduce the learning GAP of our ecosystem, funding funds approved by Hive governance have been invested in many events such as the Caracas Blockchain Week in November last year, talks, lectures and sporting events across the nation in different environments: university, business, shopping malls, etc.," revealed from Hive governance.
