The leaders of the so-called G5-Sahel (Mali, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad) need 423 million euros for the establishment of an anti-terrorist force in the region. The European Union has already announced that it is pumping 50 million euros in the troops, and Macron announced that Paris has another 8 million. A donor conference will be organized in the coming months. Macron expressed the hope that, among other things, Germany, the United States and also Belgium will make a financial effort.
The French president attaches great importance to security in the region because he believes that security in Europe is largely determined by the situation in the Sahel.
