Trump's lawyer: The investigation was unnecessary and inappropriate

On Monday, the FBI conducted a house search at a long-time lawyer of US President Donald Trump, Michael Cohen. Trump called the investigation "shameful" and "attack on our country."

"This witch hunt lasts all the time," Trump told reporters in the White House.

During the investigation, several documents were seized, including those related to the case of porn star Stormy Daniels and private communication between Cohen and his clients.

Cohen and his lawyer, Stephen Ryan, described the investigation as completely unnecessary and inappropriate.

According to the BBC, a search warrant was issued following the recommendation of Robert Mueller, a special prosecutor in investigation of Russian interference in the US election in 2016.

But according to the New York Times, it is not directly related to this investigation, but rather to the information provided by Cohen to the New York State Prosecutor's Office.

Cohen found himself in the spotlight after acknowledging that just before the presidential election in 2016, he paid $130,000 to actress Stephanie Clifford with the artistic name Stormy Daniels.

She claims to have received the said amount in return for silence about the relationship with Trump more than a decade ago.

Cohen has accused Daniels of violating a non-disclosure contract signed in return for money.
