BuzzSteem - YouTube's Advertising Strategy is Unsustainable [Dtube Exclusive]


Happy Tuesday Friends!

Today was a slow news day:

  • President Trump may be pulling out of the US involved Iran deal

  • Phoenix continues to break heat records daily (kill me now)

  • The Nintendo Switch is offering new services for its users, but only if you pay for it (vultures, I tell ya)

AND

  • Nicki Minaj has released a new album (like I said, slow news day)

So, I wanted to use the rest of the time to talk to you guys about YouTube.

I have seen a lot of videos lately kind of dissing the quality of Dtube content compared to YouTube. I don't think that's an unfair observation. Dtube needs MORE ENTERTAINMENT, like slap your knees, LOL and share that shit on your social medias entertainment. Dtube could have content that is similar to College Humor, and it might one day, but we are still in Beta, and things happen slowly.

That being said, there is still way more SHIT on YouTube than there is quality. The quality only sticks out because of the sheer number of vids, like millions of uploads a day. We have what, in the low thousands? And even then, a lot of the most popular vids on Youtube are SHIT-TASTIC, and the only people watching them are my 2 and 4 year olds (family vlogs and toy videos) oh and like a billion other little kids, literally.

But guess what, YouTube sells to their advertisers, the false statistics that ADULTS are watching these shows (other than the toy openings) and that's why I see adult advertisements. AKA advertisers are wasting millions each year dropping their ads on YouTube statistics that aren't even accurate. I go more into this in the video.

Eventually Dtube producers will need some form of outside revenue. It doesn't have to be like the YouTube advertising model, because that is broken anyway, but it does need to happen if we ever want to grow, and not be dependent on Dtube upvotes. They are super great, and Dtube is very kind to share the love, but once this platform has millions of people using it, there will be no way for Dtube to keep up with everyone.

Perhaps the SMT's will help that, but likely they won't, so sponsorship, in-video advertising, or targeted ads (with REAL statistical data) is the only solid future for Dtube.
