Needlework Monday - Little Girls Crochet Chain Necklace - Picture Tutorial Inside - My Vision for this Day!

FullSizeRender.jpg

Hello all! Happy Monday! For me it really is a Happy Monday because once again I get to share my needlework with you all and view other projects from some awesome Steemican friends!

I wanted to do #Needleworkmonday because as I was sharing my needlework art I felt it really didn't have it's own place here on Steemit. I am so passionate about the art of crafting that I wanted to bring other crafters together to support each other, share and inspire others to try or even to start crafting again. If you missed the first initial post you can view it here.

#Needleworkmonday is not a 'Contest'. It is a Challenge for crafters to share their Marvelous art and talents with the Steemit community. It is a Challenge for us to inspire others by what we create with our hands and the passion and heart that we put into each piece. So I Challenge you to share that handy piece of time consuming work!

There are benefits that come with sharing your needlework art on Mondays here in Steemit:

Making new friends and connections with other crafters
Sharing ideas, patterns and inspiring one another
Receiving motivation, encouragement and feedback
Gaining continued support from others with like interests
Being challenged to perfect your skill
Seeing more needlework art creations on your feed
Helping to bring crafting alive again
Promotion for your patterns and product sales if you have a small business
Upvoted and Resteemed for your contributions

I am so excited that everyone is enjoying our Mondays to share! My Hope is that more and more Steemicans will join in and fill this Steemit platform with lots of needle creations! Please feel free to spread the word and to include the hashtag #Needleworkmonday to the end of your posts along with the other Awesome challenges being initiated! Help us bring needlework art back to life! Thanks in advance~

Today I want to share with you a little girls crochet chain necklace I made for my daughter when she was 5. I have made it for ages 4-10. It seems girls between these ages really enjoy wearing them. These make great Birthday gifts and you do not need a lot of yarn or supplies. This fun little project took me less than one hour to complete. After finishing the chain ropes I hot glued a flower appliqué on for extra charm!

Supplies:

-Chunky yarn of any color
-N/15 10mm crochet hook
-Flower appliqué (optional)
-Tapestry needle size 13
-Hot glue gun if using appliqué or you can sew it on with needle and thread
-Scissors

Pattern:

You will make two chain ropes for this necklace. It can easily be modified by adding more chains for extra length and/or more chain ropes for added thickness.

1 . Chain 48

2 . Sl st to the beginning to create a loop

3 . Tie off the ends and cut the access yarn to look like this:

4 . Repeat to make second chain rope. Add 2 more chains to give the second one more length (Ch 50).

5 . Cut ends on both chain ropes just above the knots. Your chain ropes should look like this:

6 . Grab the chain ropes with the knots together and start wrapping extra yarn around both of them together. Make sure as you are wrapping you cover up the knots. You can wrap as loosely or tightly as desired and make it as thick as you like. I call this wrapped part the grip.

7 . Once wrapping is complete cut the yarn leaving a long length to sew in your end to the bottom of the grip using your tapestry needle. Start at one end and weave it all the way to the opposite end.

8 . Now going back the opposite way weave in your end going left to right in a criss cross motion. This gives it a nice look on the bottom of the grip.

9 . Tie in your end. I like to hide my knot inbetween the grip and the chain ropes and then hot glue it into place. Your chain necklace should look like this:

10 . Add the flower appliqué on by using hot glue or sewing it on with needle and thread. Finally your chain necklace is complete!

I hope you enjoyed my first picture tutorial! Please, if you have any feedback or advice to give me that would help make my instructions more clearer I would gladly accept it. I want to be able to communicate my patterns with you all as simply and clearly as possible. I decided to try this way before trying a video tutorial. If you ever give this little necklace a go I would love to see it! 😃
