Kia Ora, Hi there from New Zealand
This is my first time posting in the Needlework section. I did try to post on Monday but I had some difficulties as I have not posted here in many years, and I was so pleased to come back and see a whole community of needle workers - I am SO excited about it. It's a fabulous way to meet other makers. So here I am with my first post and the process it took to turn this beautiful quilt that I found at our local thrift hospice shop, in to a warm gorgeous coat.
Have you ever worked with a quilt before? I had mixed feelings about cutting in to this lovely work - but in the end I felt good about turning it in to something wearable, and supporting the hospice at the same time. Big thanks to whoever donated it!
At the end you'll see what I did with the left over scraps from this project <3
Here is the end result of the coat :)
Surprisingly it didn't take me as long as expected to make, maybe a few days. (I'm quite a slow maker) and this was fast for me. It was also easier than expected which is always satisfying.
Here is the stunning quilt I started out with..
Then I set out choosing pattern placement..
Cutting...
Testing...
I finished with binding and snap buttons.
And there we have it. Here is the back. I love the colors and pattern of these quilt blocks!
Inside lining..
It has side seam pockets and also one large inside pocket
That's it. Remember I said at the end I'll share what I did with the scraps? I dislike throwing scraps away and wasting good fabric so I made.....
A quilt vest!!
( I also made the purple dress out of an old sheet)
Well it's so great to be posting here again I'm looking forward to meeting so many new people!
