Election Commission (EC) gives special opportunity to amend the national identity card of the upazila level voters. In this regard, the EC has called for amendment of the order by 30 November in front of smartcard distribution.
A letter sent to NID director (joint-secretary) Abdul Baten signed to the district and upazila officials said that all the city corporations and district headquarters have already finished printing of smart national identity card and distribution activities are in progress. Upazila level card (except headquarters) of all districts will start printing soon. After printing, some people have been accused of having a smart national identity card.
In the past several times NIDs have been given special privileges for correction. Even after the NIDs are wrong, but the amendments have not been made, the commission has decided to give them the opportunity to correct them again. NID Wing Communications Officer Ashikur Rahman said that to ensure the correct smartcards, the Upazila level has been asked to apply for amendment by November 30. That's why we have been asked to run the field from November 20.
