Myanmar is a battleground in anti-junta protests

The protesters chanted slogans urging the military government to relinquish power. The situation turned violent when thousands of government officials joined the anti-coup protests. Army members fired rubber bullets to disperse the agitated crowd in the capital, Nay Pyi Taw.

As the procession spread, chaos spread across the capital. Security members fired water cannons and tear gas. International media have reported that no such protests have taken place in Myanmar in the past decade. The army ruler has imposed curfew in several cities at night by banning public gatherings. It has become difficult to get out on the streets due to strict restrictions. Dissatisfaction is forming in it.

In a speech to the nation on Monday, Myanmar's army chief promised to hand over power to a democratic government with new elections, but the movement has intensified.
