“Pescador de hombres” es una de las canciones que más suenan hoy tanto en misas católicas. Su letra nos habla de un pasaje de la biblia muy conocido que describe el primer encuentro entre Jesús y Pedro.
Existen varias versiones, pero en la versión de Lucas nos habla de una pesca milagrosa. Se encontraba Simón (Pedro) y Andrés en la orilla limpiando sus redes, cuando Jesús subió a la barca de los hermanos y les pidió que se alejaran un poco de la costa y desde allí predicó a la multitud que lo seguía. Después les dijo: “...echad vuestras redes para pescar”. Pedro replicó: “Maestro, toda la noche hemos estado trabajando, y nada hemos pescado; mas en tu palabra echaré la red”. Y cuando lo hizo, pescó tanto que las redes se rompían. “Viendo esto Simón Pedro, -escribe Lucas- cayó de rodillas ante Jesús, diciendo: Apártate de mí, Señor, porque soy hombre pecador. (...) Pero Jesús dijo a Simón: No temas; desde ahora serás pescador de hombres. Y cuando trajeron a tierra las barcas, dejándolo todo, le siguieron”.
Es por ello que La canción hace énfasis a ese llamado de Jesús y al hecho de que eligió como discípulo a hombres sencillos y trabajadores: “No has buscado ni a sabios, ni a ricos, tan sólo quieres que yo te siga.
