Hey Steemit! Today I'd like to share a bit of a somewhat "underground" band with you all... "Snarky Puppy!" (If you love improvisation you MUST watch both of these videos in their entirety... trust me... you need to see this.)
I discovered them while attending college for jazz performance in Hamilton Ontario. These guys have a huge following and influence amongst a lot of young and modern jazz players.
The band encompasses everything from Jazz, Funk, to Rock, and much more.
The group is led by bassist Michael League and comprises a changing membership of around 40 different musicians - Most of which are session musicians who have worked with artists like John Mayer, Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg, David Crosby, and many more.
These musicians are highly talented and educated in their field. The real show is watching them improvise... most songs start with a "composition" type feel, but then half way through they seem to break down into an improvised jam before going back to the tune again (typical jazz format - head in/solos/head out) Check out these 2 songs, the playing is ridiculously good. You won't be disappointed.
