The number of suspicious deaths on the island has continued to mount.
Unidentified Female Singer– “Death Island of the Setting Sun”
“Death Island of the Setting Sun” (2018 – original from 1964, or earlier)
This version of the classic American folk song, with completely new lyrics, was made by certain people in southern Thailand. It was created in order to shed light on the ongoing and unsolved murders that occur on the island of Koh Tao – which has become known as “Death Island.”
Suicide by Bludgeon?
Buried, but not Forgotten
After two murders in September 2015, the police Lt. General announced that the police had video evidence implicating the son of the island headman, along with the manager of a local bar. There was no subsequent police investigation, and it appears that the evidence has been buried.
Sun Sets on Innocence
In an appalling travesty of injustice, 2 young men from Myanmar were charged with the 2014 murders. In a show trial, those 2 scapegoats were tried and convicted. Nevertheless, the number of violent and suspicious deaths on Koh Tao has continued to mount. (Image source)Anonymous
Neither the singer nor the lyricist of “Death Island of the Setting Sun” have been identified. So, I’ll just say thanks to Ian Yarwood for posting this on YouTube, and hope that he passes on any appreciation to those who deserve it.
Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand
Death Island of the setting sun
Sees backpackers raped and murdered
Who naively searched for fun
They saved their time and money
So they could live their dreams
Only to discover that
Paradise aint what it seems
Are corrupt cops he’s tamed
And the only time he’s satisfied
Is when he’s killed again
Oh, mothers, tell your children
Not to do what they have done
Lose their lives in fear and agony
With suspicion on the headman’s son
Thai cops will blame the victims
Koh Tao mafia will as well
Or they’ll frame two Burmese scapegoats
Still rotting in death-row cells
Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand
Death Island of the setting sun
Sees backpackers raped and murdered
Only God knows if you’ll be one (Image source)

The origins of the American folk / blues tune “The House of the Rising Sun” are lost in the mists of time. In 1964, the British band The Animals made the song famous with this excellent version.
