Record Of The Day - The Winstons - Amen, Brother

Little did they know when they were making this that it be one of the most influential records of the 20th century, and most people have never heard it, well not in its original state anyway.

It's all about the drums. It's a great soul tune in its own right, with some great guitar licks, a majestic Hammond and a funky brass section. About a minute and a half in there's a little drum break, it's only a couple of bars, but it's a funky two bars!

Amen, Brother is the b-side of a track called Color Him Father, released in 1969 by the Winston

That two bar section has been sampled countless times on dance, jungle, drum and bass and hip-hop tracks over the years. Here are a couple of examples...

It's everywhere, it's a sample that's been on sample CD's, discs passed around, artists sampling each other, it's omnipresent! Here's a great video explaining the history of the loop in detail. It's a great listen...

Here's a couple more pictures of my copy, it's a reissue, from Sounds Of The Universe...
