The Brave Faces release In the Dark | Amalgamating influences of 80s post-punk, shoegaze and contemporary indie

Amalgamating influences of 80s post-punk, shoegaze and contemporary indie, has created an introspective, melancholic sound for The Brave Faces.

For fans of: The National, Joy Division, Spector, Slowdive, The Horrors, The Maccabees, Echo and the Bunnymen.

There’s a new indie-come-post-punk band on the scene: The Brave Faces. The brooding Brighton band released their debut single ‘In the Dark’ on the 27th March. The track was mastered by none other than sound engineer Pete Maher, who has previously worked with U2, Pixies and Nick Cave.

The Brave Faces

‘In the Dark’ has an infectious, yet discordant hook that'll get stuck in your head immediately. In conversation with The Argus, The Brave Faces explained:

'In the Dark' explores power within a relationship… from the perspective of someone offering up fumbled clichés as apologies.

Falsetto back-up complements the lead singer’s low, resonating voice. The track sees clear Joy Division influences with the twangy rhythm guitar and soldierly percussion. Swaying synths permeate alongside defenceless lyrics like ‘Instead of pushing away, you could let me in’ and ‘Lying awake, every night, it's in your eyes and on your mind’.
The band’s moody, vulnerable aesthetic is perhaps best demonstrated in the chorus’ hook: ‘In the dark, night and day / In the dark, night and day / What a waste’.

The Brave Faces

This is a great chill track that I can imagine fitting perfectly alongside the rhythmic chugging of the London Underground; The Brave Faces are going straight on my tube playlist and For The Love Of Bands' New Indie Music playlist.

I’m highly anticipating the band’s upcoming singles: ‘Lots of Nights Out’ and ‘It Takes a While’, recorded alongside ‘In The Dark’ with renowned producer Dave ‘Izumi’ Lynch.

You can listen to ‘In the Dark’ on all good streaming platforms now.
