Assembling the saxophone lesson #3 with F.O

After concluding in our last class on how to effectively arrange the mouthpiece and the neck. The main parts of the saxophone are the neck, body, mouthpiece, reed, and ligature we also need to identify all the parts of your saxophone.

Make sure you do not push or pull the parts of the saxophone carelessly while you assemble your saxophone, they may bend.

● Fix the neck strap to the body of the saxophone through the hook om thw back of the sax, kindly hold the saxophone on the bottom strongly so as to maintain balance and keep in place.

● Fix the neck to the hole at the top of the body, carefully twist the neck into the hole so as to aid free entry. After the neck/mouthpiece is directly facing your mouth, then you can tighten the screws on both sides.

Now we need to hold your sax perfectly by using your right hand to hold the bottom part holding firm and tight the white buttons, your picky right finger holding the the golden key below and your thumb fixed on the thumb rest behind the sax (a few inches below the straphook)

The left hand holds the top of the saxophone with your fingers holding the the white keys also and your thumb resting on the octave key behind, although you'll see 5 buttons at the top, but you'll basically skip the very button smaller than others.

Try to stretch your fingers to the buttons seemlessly so as to aid skillfulness and dexterity, while you hold firm to you sax so as to have full control over it.

Postures of mouthing the mouthpiece

  • lip to lip:- Curl your lower and upper lips and place your mouth piece in between

  • Teeth to lip:- put your teeth on top of the mouthpiece and curl tour lower lip to affirm it and put your mouth half way over the reed.

PS: Make sure to keep in mind that air can escape from the side of your mouth as well.

I'm sure you're trying to blow air into it now don’t be surprised if it doesn’t sound great, or, if after a while, you feel some pain in your lips (this is normal and will get better, but don’t overdo your initial practice sessions to the point where you cannot stand the pain)

Please don’t be sad if you cannot play a tune immediately. Some people can actually do quite well straight away, but most of us do need a little more help…
