The Snakes Make It Into Ocean County

One of my favorite things to do with my significant other was to catch The Snakes anytime they appeared at St. Stephen's On The Green in Spring Lake. Having moved out of Monmouth County, it is a little further now to make it out to that venue as frequently as we like. Currently living in Ocean County, imagine my surprise when I saw their name on the sign outside The Lighthouse Tavern in Waretown while there for Trivia Night.

The very first time we saw The Snakes, we were amazed at how many people were singing and dancing along with the band. It is no secret that I love Irish rock music and they play a good mix of the Celtic stuff, as well as many popular folk and rock tunes. In addition, they take requests and will attempt to please you even if they feel that they are not well rehearsed for a particular number. For example, I requested "Sally McLennane" by The Pogues, and even though they claimed to have not attempted the song in quite some time, it sounded perfect.

They also played Irish classics such as "The Unicorn Song," "The Worst Day Since Yesterday" and "Whiskey In The Jar." I love the latter song whether it is done traditionally Irish or in the hard rock style of Metallica. The crowd was also singing along to "King Of The Road" and "Country Roads." They handled everything from oldies rock and roll to new wave / alternative. The most important aspect of a performance by The Snakes is that you are sure to have a good time, almost as good as the one they are having by performing!
