Last weekend we celebrated the 6th Calella Rockfest. As many of you know, I'm the main manager of the event, so until today I have had lot of work because of it. Now I can breathe and take a look back at what happened during the festival.

First of all, I couldn't take a lot of photos (well actually I'm not good at taking photos) so having professional and semi-professional photographers at the venue, they have give me permission to share their photos of course crediting them. Thanks to Fran Cea, Halley Lambert, Joan Maria Arenaza and Ruben Cid for the photos. I have also recopilated some videos from youtube.

On Friday night, we had 4 bands: Dry River (Spain), Hellsingland Underground (Sweden), Lordi (Finland) and Nashville Pussy (USA).

Let's start with Dry River. The band from Castelló de la Plana (País Valencià), came to Calella to offer us their latest album, called 2038. It wasn't easy to be the openers of the festival, people was just entering the stage when they started the show. But from the first moment they connected with the audience where there were some fans of them who singed most of the songs. They mix different styles, progressive rock, pop, hard rock... With a couple of actors that join them on stage, they have a really nice show, taking care of details, to be also a visual band. I'm happy to have bands like this at the festival. The audience likes to discover new bands and is what we try to do with half of the lineup of the festival.

The second band to take the stage were the Swedes Hellsingland Underground. I had the chance to see them live in 2010 in Rockweekend, Sweden and must say that they have improve their sound a lot. The show is much better than the first time I saw them. They play like they are from the deep America, but they aren't, they are from the deep Sweden!

Charlie is a really good frontman, a great vocalist and he has a lot of charisma that helps to connect with the audience. And what to see about the band! The twin riffs of both guitarists are awesome. They sound like a mix between The Allman Brothers Band and Thin Lizzy. In my opinion it was the best show of that night, and I think that the audience thought the same looking at their reaction.

Lordi arrived to the festival as headliners for Friday night. For the ones who are not familiar with them, they won the Eurovision contest in 2006. They wear like monsters and don't like to be seen without the costumes before the show, so it makes harder the preparation of the show for organizers.

They went on stage, and part of the crowd was crazy for their presence and the other part was expectant. Not a bad show (my expectations weren't too high) but nothing spectacular. They have some nice effects (and some of them they counldn't use because of the venue restrictions) and there are some funny momments during the show, but for people who prefer the music to the show, didn't enjoy a lot.

Who did enjoy a lot were the photographers!

The band choosed to close Friday night were the Americans Nashville Pussy, a kind of mix between Mötorhead and AC/DC leaded by Ruyter Suys and Blaine Cartwright.

And they went up to stage like it was the last day on earth. Pure energy, pure (accelerated) rock & roll. Attitude 100%. They've played in Catalonia many times and you know that they live for rock & roll. On the hospitality rider they ask for a Jack Daniels bottle, and yes, they drink (almost) the full bottle on stage.

They are the kind of band that we like to have to close the night. Bands who don't mind to start the concert after midnight and they are still ready to kick our asses.

Concerts use to end about 02:30h a.m. and until 03:30h we have the Drinkin' Brothers DJ's to play some rock & roll hits. People goes crazy listening to Kiss or AC/DC but also to more unknown bands. The Drinkin' Brothers DJ's joined us on the first edition and have grown with us, so if you wanna party hard let me know, I'll send them directly to your party!!

Definitely it was a great night. Lots of rock & roll, lots of beer and a big smile on peolple faces, but what it was about to happen on Saturday night overcome all our expectations. Saturday night, for most of us was the greatest night that we have live in the 6 editions of Calella Rockfest. But I'm gonna explain it to you in a future post.

Rock on!
