WEEK 1 // KUBRICK

What's with the song title?

Naming song ideas when they are in their infancy is always weird / funny. With this one we were using a patch called Kubrix on the Arturia Synclavier plugin for the circuit bent organ sound.

What inspired the idea?

We were just playing around with chords using the organ sound expecting that the sound would probably change to something more electronic. Then when we played in the bass line using the Novation Bass Station II it suddenly sounded really cool. It's definitely inspired us to use more organic sounds for lead / synths. Once we had some chopped up vocal samples and dirty analogue drum sounds in there we got pretty excited.

Anything interesting about the production of the track?

Used a few Teenage Engineering Pocket Operators for samples
Everything is played in live with almost no quantising
Written between about 2am and 4am when our ears needed a break from another song idea
Used a sample of a knife block being hit by a drum stick for some reason (lol idk)

Likelihood of this making it to the album?

4/10
It's possibly a little too dark? We're not sure. The vibe of a song can change pretty drastically once Alice has sung on it.
