Fake medicines are a major public health issue, with potentially devastating consequences for unsuspecting consumers. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that up to 30 percent of medicines in developing countries are counterfeit, and even in developed countries, 1–10 percent of medicines are counterfeit.
