Ozark

I recently binged ozark from start to the most recent episode.it was an emotionally exhausting experience. The show often reminds me of my own issues with my parents ha ha.
Watching ozark that way the events of the show seemed to flow like a river, the plot twists become more like inevitabilities. The recurring themes strongly assert themselves.
One of the earliest themes is symbolism, in my opinion one of the least important but most persistent, it adds for interesting style but isn't necessary to understand to keep going.
The meat and potatoes are themes of family, loyalty and betrayal, narcissism and hubris, trust and deception. There's also the theme of characters carrying the idiot ball, making incredibly stupid decisions for seemingly no reason. This starts as frustrating but it eventually becomes clear that this is part of the themes of hubris, narcissism, and general human weakness.
A lesser theme is reaching across the aisle politically, usually to slap both sides in the face as being absolutely corrupt and evil ha ha ha.
What hits close to home are themes of being betrayed by those closest to us while finding trust in those we would least expect.
Suffice to say i'm hooked on the show.
