Film Review – A Quiet Place – 9 out of 10

Dear Steemians,

I’m back for another film review! After covering Annihalation last week, I’m going to talk about a very different kind of film… A quiet one 😉

Shhhh! 😊

Starring John Krasinski (who’s also the director) and Emily Blunt, this is so far one of the best movies of this year. Not because it has astonishing performances or because it has been perfectly directed (it’s close though), but because….

Shhhhh!

It’s quite ingenious when you think about the main idea of the movie: it’s a post apocalyptical world, in which Mankind has been forced into… Silence. Can you picture it? Just silence, anywhere, anytime, doing anything… Or you… Die.

I’m not getting much into detail (as always) regarding the story, but, besides the originality, it’s very well constructed. It follows the typical three act structure, with the ‘timings’ being respected as Hollywood has already made us used to.

The characters are not that deep and the main character’s (hero’s) arc is quite expected, but this is largely balanced with the amazing work John Krasinski made as a director…

There are some good performances by the more experienced actors, but the kids are also good (given their age).

Regarding the direction of the movie, it was very well done, specially the building of the tension throughout the film. There are lots of shocking parts and tense moments that will make you want to scream at the screen (although you can’t because… shhhhh! :P), and that is the essential and utmost important goal of a thriller!

And this – I would say – is the reason I rate this film with a high 9 out of 10: it’s tense, it’s intense, it’s a real Thriller! There are some Horror to it as well (well, yeah, a little bit of horror never hurt nobody), but it was made to be a Thriller… And it’s a damn good one!

(And I love Thrillers… I really do 😉 )

And this scene… Oh this scene… Amazing! Yeah!

Overall, I think this is a very original movie (even though it’s based on a novel – hey, doesn’t anybody write good, original stories just for the sceen?!) and a very good film to watch in…

Shhhh!
