Marvel Changes its Movie Release Date Again

Marvel phase 4.jpg

It seemed like Marvel had the perfect solution, push each movie back to the next one's release date. But Coronavirus has different plans. Remember that Spider-Man 3 release date I wrote about? Well, apparently filming on that movie should have started next month, but that's not going to happen. A lot of movies cannot start filming according to their original or even their new release schedule. In fact, Black Widow and Eternals are the only movies that are ready to go. Which means we might see even more movement in the near or not so near future.

But for now, here is the new and confusing release date for the MCU:

Black Widow stays on November 6, 2020.

Eternals stays on February 12, 2020.

Chang-Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings stays on May 7, 2020. I don't think that it will stay on this date. It is too soon and no one knows when filming can even start.

Remember that I wrote that Spider-Man 3 comes out three weeks after Venom 2 on July 16, 2021? Well, that's not the case anymore. Spider-May 3 has been delayed to November 5, 2021. That is so not a Spider-Man release date. Spider-Man is a summer movie. It should have switched places with Venom which totally works as a fall movie. November has been really good to Marvel movies, but it just doesn't feel right for Spider-Man which did so well in July twice in a row.

Next up there is a movie that we will be getting sooner than expected, Thor: Love and Thunder. It is now an official Valentine's Day as the movie is set to come out on February 11, 2020 instead of February 18, 2020. Its original release date November 5, 2021 has been given to Spider-Man 3. This movie will probably do well no matter when it will come out, but winter works well with Thor.

You know why Thor 4 sounds strange? There was a movie that was supposed to come out before Thor 4. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It is now official that Sam Raimi will direct the movie. He has a lot of time to work on it as the movie has been pushed back to March 25, 2022. Yep, that's right 2022. This movie is basically Avengers 4.5. It was perfect in its original release date of May 11, 2021. Even November 5, 2021 which was the second release date was ok, as the original Doctor Strange movie came out in November. March was great for Captain Marvel, but it came out for women's international day. Still this movie sounds too good to fail no matter how odd the release date is. We should expect WandaVision which will lead directly to this movie to be pushed back as well. Wanda fans need to wait some more to see the Scarlet Witch in all of her glory. But I think that it might seriously harm the next Marvel movie which is set to come out less than a month later.

Black Panther 2 will now open the 2020 summer season on May 6, 2020. It's a great date for this movie. It is just way too close to Doctor Strange 2. That movie will make so much money as it will be totally crazy. But, Black Panther 2 is also a slam dunk for a billion dollars so it has that going for it. I don't think it will have a problem making as much money as the first Black Panther, but we can never be too sure. If you think that means that the next and closing movie of 2020 will suffer at the box office after these two behemoths you are mistaken.

Captain Marvel 2 will come out on July 8, 2020. Yeah July is an odd month for a Marvel movie. Yeah the first movie was not the best Marvel movie, but it did make a billion dollars. Make no mistake, this is shaping up to be a billion dollars movie as well. All of the previous behind the scenes staff has been fired to make room for a new one which will make a better movie. A more complex movie. A Secret Invasion movie, with a Disney+ TV show which will lead up to the movie. An Avengers 4.8 movie. Considering these ingredients, I think this movie will be a total blast which will cause chaos on the level of Winter Soldier plot wise.

It's a strange and crowded release date. Three movies set barley a month apart in the summer of 2020. But I am excited and I will go see every single one of these movies like twice.

What do you think about this crazy release schedule?
