It's been so long since we had some good Marvel news, but we finally have something. Everyone from the first Captain Marvel movie was fired. Sure, it was a major hit at the box office. But it became apparent over time that it was too much like a phase one movie. Marvel wants to see the sequel do better with critics and with general audiences.
So now, the movie has a new director, Nia DaCosta. The trailer for her movie Candyman looks so good that no wonder that Marvel snatched her up before the movie is even out yet. I know that everyone thinks that this is a Jordan Peele horror flick, but he is the producer of the movie, not the director. So Marvel hired another horror movie director to direct their movies. It has become a well-known pattern for them. Also the director is relatively unknown, like it happens with most of their movies. Probably because it's cheaper. Also, yes, it's another time where a woman was hired to direct a movie lead by a woman, but this time it's a woman of color, so it is slightly different then the norm. Still, DaCosta seems like an exciting choice.
DaCosta is going to have her hands full. The rumor says that this movie will be a min-Avengers movie that will have many of the major stars of the MCU in it. Plus it might set up the Secret Invasion storyline as Danvers is closely related to both the Kree and the Skrulls as the first movie established. Marvel is pretty good at integrating new directors, especially those with their own style. A bit of horror with a super strong heroine can go a long way, especially with a sneakier then physical plotline.
I have big hopes and expectations from this movie. I am so excited. Also, I am so happy to get some Marvel news. I feels like it has been too long since we had real new Marvel content that isn't revolving around delays. Can we get the Black Widow movie out already please?
