As you know, I have dedicated my Fridays to talk about movies (now you know, if you didn't), and till the Academy Awards, we will be talking about favorites for the Best Picture category.

With the highest number of nominations this year with 13 nods, this week we are taking a look at The Shape of Water.

The Shape of Water is an American fantasy drama film directed by Guillermo del Toro and stars Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Octavia Spencer.

Set in 1962 Baltimore, it follows the story of a mute, isolated woman(Sally Hawkins) who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden, high-security government laboratory.

Her life changes forever when she discovers the lab's classified secret -- a mysterious, scaled creature from South America that lives in a water tank. As Elisa develops a unique bond with her new friend, she soon learns that its fate and very survival lies in the hands of a hostile government agent and a marine biologist.

Made on a budget of $19.5 million, it has already grossed over $76.5 million at the box office.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 92% based on 306 reviews, with an average rating of 8.4/10.

At the 90th Academy Awards, it received the highest number of nominations (13), with numerous accolades in other awards.

My Opinion

What stood out for me in The Shape of Water was the acting. The film was beautifully acted with a lot of standout performances.
The story was also nice and it is for me, one or the best films of the year.
