Mount Taranaki is the most perfectly formed volcano in New Zealand. He was about 120,000 years old and last erupted in 1775 and volcano experts agreed the volcano was 'asleep' instead of dead. Often described as the most frequently climbed mountain in 'New Zealand', Mt Taranaki provides a challenge to the summit that can be achieved by non-climbers.
