Once again a rider suffers heartbreak a few days before the start of a new season, Motocross can be a cruel mistress at times...

Petar Petrov was all set for the opening round of the MXGP FIM Motocross World Championship at the Internazionali d'Italia series this weekend and onward to Hawkstone the week after. Early reports from a Hawkstone representative have been issued saying that he has broken his collarbone during a practice session at a test track while preparing for the upcoming races.

Hawkstone International

"Sadly Petar Petrov has broken his collarbone and we wish him well in his recovery,"

Nothing Official has been announced yet but i would expect them to match the above statement.

Hawkstone have also stated that regular EWC series rider, Nathan Watson has been called in to act as replacement for the Bulgarian rider for the Hawkstone round. Again Assomotor Honda have not confirmed this but we should expect this to be the case.

This is a real blow to Petrov's season especially as he has been plagued with injuries over the last few years. Last year was one of his worst to date and saw him only complete four rounds of the FIM Motocross World Championship. Hopefully he can heal up and be on the line for the Grand Prix of Patagonia-Argentina in a little over a months time.
