1 Timothy 6:10 | For the love of money is the root of all evil...

While the debate rages over "who" is responsible for our present day maladies, the sickness of our culture pervades our thinking to the point that we think "fixing blame" is the same as solving the problem. The delusion there is that we distract ourselves from having to face the harsh reality of living within a structure that is systematically eating away at our very existence. Not only our existence, but now our future.

This "business" exists for two purposes, to make money and to further subvert the moral fabric of modern society. For this business to become established it needs two things, available capital and corporate laws that will shield those personally involved from any future personal liability. The market can come later, human moral degeneracy is a given. And it is our unfettered capitalist system coupled with corporate personhood that makes such an enterprise like this possible.

Free enterprise, on the other hand, meets needs or desires of the market place. Unlike capitalism, it does not cultivate markets. The capitalist system is what makes money available for such pursuits. Responding to the market rather than cultivating markets is the superiority of the free enterprise model over the capitalist one. Consequently, in a free market system, the morality of the market place drives what is made available in the markets, not the other way around.

This all goes back to the corrupting influence of Edward Bernays and his systematic disassembly of Western Culture in the modern era. Creator of "perceived needs," it was his work that took the western world from a needs based culture and turned it into a wants-based consumptive culture. I don't blame him, we are to blame. So as we look in on his work we must remind ourselves that he serves only as a mirror to the failings and lack of personal discipline within ourselves.

This business is both immoral and destructive to mankind in my estimation. But it is the capitalist system that we have today is what makes it so. Capital provided to develop and grow a business that serves man's evil and basest of desires. There was no pre-existing demand for this, it is a demand that is being cultivated by an economic system that seeks to further harvest the last bit of value from those that try to live within it.

And like capitalism, socialism, and communism as well drive markets, not respond to them.
