SMD (Steemit Meditation Day)1st May!

So we had 1st Steemit Group Meditation on 1st May 2019 at 8pm GMT (UK time) on Discord @naturalmedicine. So in addition to 1st May being a #SPUD (Steem Power Up Day) it is now #SMD too.

But, why Meditation?
Don’t really need to ask this question, do we? But it does come frequently. And here are some hilarious answers:
“Meditation because I can’t find all the answers on Steemit”
“Meditation because punching people on the face is not allowed”

But on the serious note

  • Meditation makes us happy and healthy. What more could we ask? While science is there to back it we can experience within us. Since most of us are after health and happiness it is not a big ask to give ourselves some time for this inner journey.
  • Meditation creates a space between us and the mind giving us more freedom on how to respond to any situations.
  • Meditation makes it easy to let go of the huge burden of the past and the future and enjoy the moment as it is.
  • Meditation is a wise investment with great return. It seems contradictory to say that meditation saves time. But I know from many years of experience I can attest to that.
  • And, YES, for many established meditators, any external experiences in the sense world pales in comparison to the bliss and joy of meditation.
  • And so on…….

So what happened on 1st May?
With some hiccups (confusion about time differences, day light savings etc., sound disturbances / noise on my mic☹️) we managed to successfully complete the 1st Steemit Group Meditation. We all gathered on Discord at around 8pm UK time and had bit of chitchat. After that I explained the group about the session and the steps we were going to follow. After 10 minutes of that we had 5 minutes for question and answers but everyone seem be happy so we just went ahead with the meditation 🧘🏼‍♂️🧘🏼‍♀️.

As I explained in my previous post “Me and My Breath: 4 Steps of Breath Meditation 🧘🏼‍♂️🧘🏼‍♀️” we followed those 4 steps.

In brief: After sitting comfortably with eyes closed, we told ourselves that “I am going for meditation … I don’t want to think about past and future ….. I am going to enjoy this moment!”. Then we gave a quick check of the state of the mind to see is it feeling in this moment? Happy? Unhappy? Neutral? Without judging and without extra commentaries.

  1. We prepared our body for meditation by tightening our body muscles.
  2. Then we prepared our mind for meditation by appreciating things in our lives.
  3. The 3rds step, Breath Meditation, was the main step where we spent most of the time (about 30 minutes). We focused our entire attention on the the breath as it came in as it went out. Smilingly pulling the attention back to the breath as soon as we become aware that mind has wandered off.
  4. And then we finished it off with spreading love and kindness toward self (which is often forgotten) and others.

After the meditation we have some serious discussion and some fun and lots of laughter. Yes, apparently a toad wanted to meditate with @VincentNijman
