Torrent is a peer to peer (p2p) file sharing technology.peer to peer means like if you are the the owner of file you are a seeder and then another person downloads the file and also become a seeder in some time a third person starts downloading the file the file starts getting downloaded from seeder 1 and on seeder 2 if after few seeder owner remove seeding it. Then also it can be downloaded from same download link that other seeders are seeding that It is so famous platform that approximately 3.5% traffic on internet comes from torrents.
Some Torrent Terms and what does they mean.
- Seeders = The person who is uploading and downloading the file at a same time is called seeder.
- Peers = It is a generic term used for client doing peer to peer file sharing
- Indexers = These are those websites which list the torrent files.
- Leechers = Person who is only downloading not uploading the same file
- Magnet Link = this link directly connects you to the source of file you are trying to download
Legal Status of Torrent
In some countries torrent have legal status till an extent like Canada, Mexico, Netherlands, Switzerland, etc.
But the Majority is illegal but it can’t be extinct because of its peer to peer system. Still the countries have some strict penalties if found using torrent.
