History of MEMES - Pilot

Hello everyone!

As I have mentioned last week, I am going to make some extensive posts about ... wait for it ... #MEMES.

I understand that this may be hard to sell around here but it's what I do. My sense of humour has been twisted to a point of no return and therefore, here I am. Entertaining my friends and, I can only hope, you.

As you may have guessed, this series of posts will be about the history of memes. Moreover, their evolution, social impact, trends and popularity with commentary by me.

Having been browsing this vast field of entertainment for the past 10 years, I can still only imagine how many categories they can be sorted into, though the major ones would be (time-wise respectively):

Old Age

Memes from this era are mainly based and peaked in popularity from the 00's until almost 2015. The hidden gem behind these is that they were mostly random. What I want to say is that an unintentional photo or a quote got used so much it became a way of communicating jokes. Thus, new platform was formed. Embedding black and white text into suitable face expressions.

Photobombs

New Age

Now this is quite challenging to even categorize and explain. But just like any art form through out the history was formed one from another, memes are no different. While the leap from Rage Comics to Photobombs was a bit huge, the next evolution was just the contrary - changing, adding, extending only by a little.

Artistic additions

These are the meme formats that you may already have come across, though since the New Age era we can observe a phenomenon called monthly trends.

You know the drill - when a catchy songs comes up on a radio you have it stuck in your head until you hear another one, even more catchy. It is all the same with memes BUT they are mostly related to political or momentarily popular situations going on. Conveniently, they stick around for about a month and the community always comes up with something new. So we the people are kept entertained with smiles on our faces.

Don't miss out
