MediChain is a soon to be, decentralized blockchain based platform that allows patients to store their medicals records in a safe place that is easily shared and accessed by their doctors and caregivers. The platform allows patients full mobility of their data; it can be transferred and taken anywhere they need. It also allows patients full transparency in choosing how much of their data and records are to be anonymous or visible to their doctor. Patients can even be paid to let doctors, researchers, and scientists around the world view their records and data for research and scientific purposes.
The architecture of the innovative MediChain platform is one of the greatest reasons why it is so different and special. They are in the process of developing a solution to offset the limitations of current blockchain technology not allowing the storage space in the immense amount that MediChain needs in order to successfully hold all medical records and data. They are building on and improving the typical and widely used off chain data storage model as well as developing a pilot system to improve their concept. They are also developing further improvements into the speed and usage factor of their systems. MediChain wishes to avoid a platform and system similar to Bitcoin, and instead have one that, despite being used by thousands, has a transaction processing speed that will allow and support a consistently increasing amount of active users. One of the ways they are doing this is by dividing their block chain systems into different sectors, with each sector of block chain consisting of a different type of data to a specific disease or ailment.
In terms of performance goals and how the MediChain platforms hopes to work, it’s all up to the patient and their data. When medical data about a person is gathered by a professional or a medical device, such as when a patient is entered in for a prescription or purchases any kind of medicine, the person then has the chance to add a reference to the blockchain provided by MediChain off of an app or device. This block chain is essentially acting as a decentralized digital ledger, and because it contains the hashes that validate off chain data, it is also an index to storage. The MediChain blockchain system records the patient’s critical medical information in the off chain system which is part of a fully secure, incorruptible cryptographic database, which is maintained and kept watch over by MediChain’s secure network of computers. The information in the computers is only accessible to the MediChain team members who securely run the computer software, or to anyone who has the patient’s explicit permission to access their records and information with the correct cryptographic keys. At any point, if a doctor logs any type of information on to the patient’s blockchain records, it instantly becomes part of their off chain record, the electronic system the doctor uses is of no issue; caregivers can use the system without having to be careful or worry about issues of incompatibility. The same goes from when a patient logs into their records themselves using their specific smart card, it is also logged into their off chain system and gives them complete control over their own data and medical records.
