Medicated Coconut Oil - Vegan - The Perpetual Stoner

Medicated Fat

A while back I made some medicated butter Cannabis needs fat to bind to in order for item to be properly medicated. The most popular fat people use is butter. Mainly because it works so well in baking. However, lately coconut oil has emerged as the new fat in town. Not only is it vegan friendly, but due to the higher saturated fat content, it actually makes a better binder for the cannabis than butter.

How to

The coconut oil recipe is just as easy as the butter recipe. You will need a slow cooker for best results. There are three basic steps to making medicated coconut oil. Melt the coconut oil, add water, add the decarbed weed, and mix. After properly mixed, cook it over low heat for 10-15 hours. Ideally if you have the time, you want to alternate the heat on the slow cooker between "simmer", and "keep warm". You want the cannabis to cook at 180-225 deg for quite some time. Switching the heat back and forth allows you to control the temperature range. Obviously a thermometer helps. If you do not have one, the safest way to proceed is to just cook the oil for the entire 15 hours, but make sure to never turn the heat past "keep warm". If you do decide to try the temperature controlled method, be sure not to let the oil surpass a temperature of 350f at this point you will start to burn off thc.

Pic 1: Once you are done cooking the oil, let it sit for about 20 mins. Afterwards, strain the cannabis from the oil. Pic 2: use a spoon to press the cannabis, and make sure all the oil is extracted.

Pic 1: You can see the separation between the oil and the water. The water will be eventually drained out. The water provides two benefits, one is to prevent the oil from burning during the lengthy cooking process; and the other is to filter out the impurities from the cannabis. Pic 2: Pour slightly cooled oil, water and all, into a container with a lid. Refrigerate 6 hours minimum.

Pic 1: Poke holes into the butter with something sharp. You will turn this upside down and drain out the water that has separated. Pic 2: Finished product. You can store this outside, but if you don't plan on using it right away, it's not a bad idea to place it in the fridge.

You Now Have Medicated Coconut Oil

Please feel free to ask any questions on the method, or amounts. I made this recipe pretty potent, it is not a lot of oil for 7 grams of weed. However, it can definitely be made even more potent if you want to make hardcore edibles. Thank you for reading, and thanks to the Tuck clan. @bigpchef signing off.

Please medicate responsibly. Remember you can always eat more, but you cannot eat less.
