Douglasville children’s author wins $10,000 prize
ATLANTA – An author from Douglasville has drafted some new luck. Margaret Williams recently won $10,000 after matching all five numbers on a Georgia FIVE ticket purchased with her Georgia Lottery iHOPEcard.
Kroger #0366, located at 3251 Highway 5 in Douglasville, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.
According to Williams, author of children’s book, “Cotton Candy, My Maltese Dog,” she realized that she was a winner when she checked her email. Since Williams purchased her ticket with an iHOPEcard, she received an email from the Georgia Lottery’s Players Club instructing her to claim her prize at a Georgia Lottery district office.
Shortly after discovering that she was a top prize winner, the 42-year-old said that she was in disbelief.
“I was screaming,” she said. “I couldn’t believe it. I’m so grateful.”
The Savannah native and mother of one said that she plans to use her winnings to pay some bills.
The lucky winner claimed her prize last week at Georgia Lottery headquarters.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $18.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.8 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.4 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
