L&O: SVU Commentary #WarnersBackSVU

Opening

In the opening, we have two teens with mental handicaps. We see they're interested in one another. As we go along through their normal school day, we see them in the supply closet. We hear him address himself as her "Prince Eric" and she is his "Ariel." An investigation takes place. When the girl is taken to the hospital, there is a kit and blood test done. Rollins gets suspicious about things and has Dr. Warner go a little further with the blood test. Warner finds that there are meds that conflict with one another, and may induce seizures.

The Mother Nurse

When Carisi and Rollins confront the mother on these conflicts, the mother claims that she didn't know and has done intense research and doesn't know how it is she missed that. When investigating a little further Rollins and Carisi decide to have the mother see a psychologist. The psychologist then diagnosed the mother with munchausen's by proxy. She knows what she's doing is wrong, but doesn't know how to stop. The mother has been taking care of the daughter her whole life. When proceeding with further investigation, the detectives find out that the mother wasn't searching for doctors to cure her daughter. Instead she was searching for doctors who would diagnose her daughter with whatever disease or illness the mother would want her daughter to be diagnosed with. She pumped her daughter full of different meds. The daughter had to go through an intense detox after her mother was taken into custody. Her mother got released on her own recognizance. She broke the restraining order and tried to pull her daughter's IV port out at the hospital, and was then arrested again. She somehow made bail.

The Daughter and Trial

Her daughter was afraid that her mother may break the restraining order once again. So she took matters into her own hands, went to her mother's apartment with a hammer, and killed her mother. While on trial, she said that she was afraid her mother was going to come back and make her sick again. As Barba pushed her with questions, she said that she was glad that she had done it.

Barba's Conscience

Barba went to Benson's house, and said that he didn't feel right about the sentencing. He knew that it was right to proceed and convict the daughter. However, he didn't feel right about the length of the sentencing. While on the elevator Barbra made the mistake of saying that the girl could be sentenced to as little as one year in prison. Three jurors overheard the conversation and because of this the trial was dismissed.

Retrial

It was retried in family court. The girl was sentenced the three years of community service. While packing up to move in with her dad, the girl asked Rollins if it was odd that she missed her mother.

My Thoughts

I don't believe the Barba's overheard conversation was an accident. After his conversation with Benson, I believe the intended for those jurors to hear his conversation. Was the girl in the right, no. If she felt that she was in danger, she could have called Benson or Rollins.

Rap It

I hope you guys enjoy this second post of today's L&O: SVU commentary for #WarnersBackSVU. I can't wait to do more of these. Stay tuned!

Liv and Noah

When we open up to Live and Noah, we see Liv's nightmare of losing Noah. The screams from Noah and her nightmare, are actually Noah screaming from his nightmare. I love what Liv said about not knowing if she was letting him sleep in her bed for him or for her.

We can't forget how cute it was that Noah put Eddie in jail for " stealing all the ice cream."
