Long Island Heading Toward 90 Degrees Inland This Afternoon

We aren't even at the lunch hour on Long Island and temperatures away from the south shore have already climbed to the middle and even a few upper 80s. 90 degrees will be hit in Northern Nassau & Northwestern Suffolk County today with relative ease. The South wind for now is south of Sunrise Highway and it is relatively tame. Yesterday the sea breeze push didn't really penetrate much further north than Sunrise Highway so I would guess it should be about the same today. We are seeing plenty of sunshine as the satellite shows clear skies over much the Northeast and Middle Atlantic States.

The issue of a late day shower or thunderstorm to me is a minor one. Though the risk is there I think that they should be few and far between and to our north. More than likely Long Island will escape any shower this evening. Tonight will be a warm humid night with temperatures in the 60s. Then Friday it is sunshine and clouds very warm and humid with highs in the low to mid 80s away from the shore. There is perhaps a higher risk for a shower or thunderstorm but this will not happen until after sunset.

GFS FORECAST SUNDAY MAY 6, 2018

Long Island Heading Toward 90 Degrees Inland This Afternoon

The weekend holds questions with a weather front stalled to the east and south, another one coming in from the west, and some tropical moisture from the Atlantic that could be drawn northward. For now at the very least there will be clouds around on Saturday with the risk for a passing shower and highs in the 70s. A better chance of showers seems likely for Sunday with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Dry air and some sun with seasonal temperatures return on Monday.
