→ Everything You Need to Know About Tanuki

Amy Chavez, writing for Sora News, covers everything you ever wanted to know about the furry Japanese raccoon dogs with big balls:

Welcome to Japan, where raccoon-dog genitals are universally admired.

That isn't as much of an exaggeration as you may think. The tanuki's big balls feature everywhere, from statues, to art. There is even a kid's song about them. Scandalous to Americans, I'm sure, but considered all in good fun in Japan.

I've written bits and pieces of tanuki folklore on this site and will do more in the future, but if you are hungry for more, go read her article. It also features one of my photos.

Back when I had my own website, I used to post a few random links everyday or every few days, in the style of http://kottke.org or http://daringfireball.net. Readers seemed to enjoy seeing them.

To signify a link post, I'll put an arrow (→) at the beginning of the title to show you guys it is a link post and that you can skip it if such things don't interest you.
