Degus may not be known to many people. These small South American rodents are closely related to guinea pigs and chinchillas and unlike many similar sized animals can live up to 8 years. Originally used as lab animals to research diabetes these little creatures are immensely fun. I have looked after degus for over 20 years and their amusing actions and intelligence are a constant pleasure. This is a picture of my degu Harry.
