CUTENESS BELIES THE SCARS
Takashi Murakami explains that that Japans culture of cuteness in some ways is a method of healing and dealing with the scars of past wars and conflict. Primarily World War Two and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Murakami's art installation "Under the Radiation Falls," is a more visceral expression of the wounds.

My education about Takashi Murakami and his work came through working on the beyond the streets exhibition currently underway in Los Angeles. We were hired to build and install a number of things including, "Under the Radiation Falls." It was a pleasure and honor.

Beyond our capabilities, the primary reason we were brought to this project was because of our heritage and connection to Venice Beach. Venice, being the birthing ground of some of Southern Californias best street artists also has a presence at the show and will be a feature of future posts.
