imageThe word Ramadan comes from the Arabic root of ramiḍa or ar-ramaḍ, which means scorching heat or drought8] Ramadan fasting in its law is fardhu (required) for adult Muslims, except to experience obstacles to do so such as illness, on the way, old, pregnant, breastfeeding, diabetes or having menstruation9] The obligation to fast during the month of Ramadan falls in the second year of Sha'ban after the Muslim migration from Mecca to Medina.
