Blue Monday is the name given to a day in January claimed to be the most depressing day of the year.

This typically falls on the 3rd Monday of January but also on the 2nd or 4th Monday or the Monday of the last full week of January.

The concept was first published by a holiday company Sky Travel which used an equation to calculate the date taking into the account the weather conditions hence it applies only to the Northern Hemisphere. Some versions analysed trends in social media posts to calculate the date. Scientists have mocked the idea as pseudoscience and nonsensical.

The date was published in a press release under the name of Cliff Arnall, who at the time was a tutor at lifelong learning centre attached to Cardiff University. Arnall later in 2018 quoted that it was “ never his intention to make the day sound negative but rather to inspire people to take action and bold life decisions “.

I didn’t know such a day existed until this morning as I felt lazy to go to work and googling “ Monday Blues “ and come across this. I thought this is interesting and wanted to share.

I am definitely going to work and I hope you all have a great Monday and the week ahead.
