A 31- year old Gates became the youngest billionaire in the world in1987 after Microsoft went public . In 1995, at the age39, he became the richest man in the world with fortune $12.9billion.
But there is a simple reason why Gates is no longer the richest one. Gates made the choice to give much of his money away.
In 2000, the same year Gates stepped down as CEO of Microsoft, he founded the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation with the mission of improving the quality of life of people around the world.
Gates isn't only giving away his fortune, either, he inspiring the others to do the same.
The foundation has already taken on wide range of issues and projects, starting in 2000 with 1billion effort. More recently, Bill and Melinda have spend millions to fight AlZheimer and promoting global health initiatives around the world in addition to the variety of other causes.
