Have we mentioned that Lobitos has some incredible surf? Not just incredible, but world class. This photo was taken by @diego-ecoswell, an EcoSwell Director, during the 2017 Volcom surf competition at El Hueco in Lobitos. On the wave is Henry Espinoza, one of the best surfers in Lobitos.

You’d be hard pressed to find another place in South America with better waves. Lobitos draw surfers from all over the world. Whether the tide is high or low, you can always find surfers catching waves at different spots.
Though Lobitos has recently become a much more popular destination for tourists, the most iconic surf breaks (Lobitos La Punta, Baterias, El Hueco, Frontera, Generales and Piscinas) and the areas around them are now protected from any land development and/or oil drilling projects. EcoSwell has worked in collaboration with the Peruvian Society of Environmental Law in a campaign to register these spots in the National Registry of Wave Breaks under the new national law for breaks protection. In this way, the beachfront, rock formations and marine morphology that produce these incredible waves are now protected by legislation forever. The first step for long-lasting sustainable surfing tourism in Lobitos! Peru is the first country in the world to enact a break protection law and we are proud to have contributed to this collective effort! You can find out more about the wave protection in Peru here
