Dressing during the rainy season

Hello darlings!💝 How's your day going? How's the weather over there? It's been raining cat and dog here😭, gosh, I'm so cold. I'm functioning at half my normal rate, but what to do? We can't sleep at home, we gotta pay the bills, right?

Mostly, the rain starts within five minutes of warning and that time is usually too short to prepare for the downpour. So, here's what we are going to do to avoid getting caught in the next downpour unprepared. Let's be scouts (lol) since we can't all be meteorologists.

  • You need a pocket/bag umbrella: you know that small foldable umbrella that looks so cute (you may even customize it), if you are a Nigerian that attends owambe (parties) well, I'm sure you'd have been gifted at least one. The umbrellas cost between #400 to #1, 500 naira depending on the quality and strength. A regular check for weak links and holes is crucial to avoid being disappointed when you really need it.

  • Raincoat: if you can't afford an umbrella or you feel you can't be carrying one around and you don't mind folding and unfolding, then you should totally get a raincoat. It's no additional weight and is also very affordable. This is also best for the kids who can't handle umbrellas yet. You may even get different colours to match your dressing (ahha). Costs between #300 to #1, 500 naira.

  • Rain boot: this protects our legs and saves our beautiful shoes from destruction, rather than walk through the flood/water with your leather shoe, put on your rain boot. Better to get a black one as you can wear it with all outfits. If you can affordable there are floral designs and other expensive brands in the market. Ensure it is slip-proof. You can get one from #3,000 naira upwards depending on type and brand.

  • Shower cap: ladies this important for you to have in your bag. That weave is too expensive to be spoilt by rain. Except you go out with your natural hair, walking in the rain with weaves and wigs cause them to smell awfully. Shower caps cost between #100 - #500 naira.

  • Rubber shoes: if you can't afford rubber boots or feel unfashionable wearing them, you can get fancy rubber shoes, they can weather the rain. They are mostly light and now made fashionable. Ensure it is also slip-proof. You can get one from #800 upwards.

  • Other essential items include: sweater/cardigan/pullover, gloves, head warmer, quick to dry fabrics, and try as much as possible to avoid wearing white, darker colours are better.

I hope you have found this helpful.
