INDIAN NATIONAL ARMY is a modification of INDIAN INDEPENDENCE LEAGUE. First INA was formed by Gen. Mohan singh in South east Asia(JITRA) in 1942 . He was a Officer in The British Indian Army . He joined Indian National Army after the meeting with Giani Pritam Singh in jungles of Jitra when he was fighting against Japanese forces by the side of British Army .Giani Pritam Singh was a senior member of INDIAN INDEPENDENCE LEAGUE which was formed by Baba Amar Singh who spent his apx.22yrs of life in prison because he raise the voice against British . When Giani Pritam Singh met with Capt. Mohan Singh, he told the aim and motto of IIL. As capt. Mohan Singh was always had an idea in his mind to raise the voice against alien forces. He joined the INA. He got commission in 1935 from IMA Dehradun .But in dec 1942 Gen. Mohan Singh was arrested by the japanese in Singapore.

When Japan attack to British sovereign India The force which was countering them was 14th Sikh Regiment , without doubt they fought very bravely , but lack of ammunition and ration they surrendered there and they became the Prisoners of War to Japanese Forces. When they became the prisoner The Japanese forces handed over them to INA senior most leaders. At that time Capt. Mohan Singh became the General-Officer-In commanding of the liberation Army. Whether The Japanese were saying that they will not treat Indian as enemy, they will treat like a friend but their behavior was changing with the time . They were giving Arbitrary orders to INA. Without doubt they were providing the ration and ammunition but that was not adequate and insufficient. Some how Capt. Mohan Singh was tackling these tasks because some British Officers were rumoring that Japanese Intentions were not appropriate towards INDIAN's Vision of Independence. Some elements was trying to create Hindu-Muslim Dissensions. Capt. Mohan singh succeeded in overcome these difficulties. He set up his head quarter in Singapore and was assisted by LT.Col.N.S.Gill,In charge of prisoners of war head quarters by Lt.Col.J.K.Bhonsle as adjutant and quartermaster general, and by Lt.Col. A.C.Chatterjee as the director of medical Services.

But after the detention of Gen.Mohan Singh , the INA was about to disbandment . But Rash Bihari Bose then set about the task of the League as well as the INA in feb 1943. with the help of Dr. Lakshumiyah who had succeeded Raghvan in the organisation of civilian side, and the Lt.Col. Bhonsle on the military side. And he shifted the head quarter to Singapore again. Lt. Col. BHonsle was appointed Director of the military bureau of INA. and Lt. Col. M.Z.Kiani was made the commander of the Army.

And this was the time when Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was called in Singapore from Germany to take the charge of INA.
