Another Push For Removal of Student Loan Debt

Enrollment has been falling with colleges and there are a variety of reasons that you might suggest have contributed to that downfall. With the recent announcement that millions of dollars in student loans would be forgiven the discussion has come up once again and another push for the federal government in the U.S. to erase student loan debt.

One recent survey suggested that a majority of Americans want to see the immediate cancellation of at least $10k in student loan debt per person. The average student is facing tens of thousands in student loan debt, with tens of millions of students who have borrowed to pay for their education.

Majority say it isn't worth it

Another recent survey finds that a majority of borrowers have said it isn't worth it to take on that debt. Many are growing skeptical of whether or not that sort of debt sign-up is going to pay off in the long run. A degree doesn't promise anyone a job and it certainly doesn't promise them a job in their field of study either.

Almost half of college graduates are still looking for work

Despite graduating in one field or another they are still struggling to find something, even if there are countless vacancies in industries around the U.S.

Applying doesn't always mean you will hear back even if there is a job opening. A number of individuals have previously suggested that perhaps A.I. centered hiring practices could be getting in the way. Some stories online detail individuals applying for dozens or hundreds of jobs in their field only to never get a response.

The pandemic gave rise to a start-up and small business boom for some to start their own businesses at home and that is still going for many.

Though it has been pushed as the only acceptable narrative for decades as the only pathway to success the myth doesn't ring true, not every individual is going to be better off going down that road or taking on that mountain of student loan debt.
