What is Leaf Painting ?
Leaf painting is an unique art of Vietnam. With the use of leaf as an unique art material, Vietnamese have brought back leaf to an eternal life, contributing to art a new breath of air.
Before presenting in Vietnam, leaf painting have appeared in Japan, China, India with two main forms: Cutting and pasting dry leaf to make leaf paintings or using paint to draw on the surface of dry leaf to make leaf paintings.
In China or India, leaf painting is made by drawing onto leaf of a number of plants. In this case, leaf play the role as drawing-paper, artists still have to use paint to finish their art-works. A basic drawback of this art form is: Leaf size is limited so that it will restrict the creative power of artists who require a bigger ground for their art-works.
Below are some leaf paintings made by my small sister. Although she's just 7 years old her paintings are really good and recently she decided to try something different than regular painting, so I recommended her to give leaf painting a try. It turned out really great !
