The Best Las Vegas Attractions for Thrill Seekers

Las Vegas might be best-known as Sin City, the place where nightlife rules. It’s the world’s favorite destination for extravagant shows, hot nightclubs, and of course, epic casinos. Sure, some tourists get a real charge out of gambling. But what about the real adrenaline junkie?  The expert team at Vegas Food and Fun shared the inside scoop on activities for those who want to feel that rush while visiting their city. If Las Vegas shows and casinos don’t give you the rush you crave, check out the best Las Vegas attractions to fuel your soul.

1 – Channel your inner Nascar driver

If fast cars are your thing, be sure to check out Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Nope, you’re not going to watch a race—you’re going to hop into the driver’s seat! It’s an exciting opportunity to test your driving skills while lapping the track. You’ll get to experience what it’s like to drive a race car around the track at speeds that exceed your imagination if you take on this adventure.

2- Coast through Vegas

Prefer to let someone else drive? Hop on one of those famous Las Vegas roller coasters and enjoy the ride.

Take a bite of the Big Apple

Be sure to check out the Big Apple roller coaster, located at the New York New York Hotel and Casino. Conveniently located smack dab in the mid-Strip, this roller coaster takes riders through famous Manhattan buildings from its spot next to the casino complex.  While the ride itself is not the most exciting coaster I’ve experienced, it's still a fun ride.

Road trip

Want to experience one of the world’s first hypercoasters? Take a short road trip to Buffalo Bill’s Resort in Primm, Nevada and dare to ride The Desperado. This steel roller coaster thrills you with drops as much as 225 feet and rages up to 80 miles per hour.  This roller coaster is a desert oasis for tourists looking for a stop between LA and Vegas, and if you want to experience a hypercoaster firsthand, it might be worth the trip.

Blast away

Love corkscrew roller coasters? Then you should check out the Canyon Blaster which is located inside the Circus Circus Adventuredome. Because it’s housed inside a building, there are no soaring hills and drops. Instead, this roller coaster is designed to impress you with inversions and fast speeds. Some love to visit the Adventuredome to enjoy the climate-controlled park as they escape the famous mid-day Vegas heat. Be sure to plan some time visiting; you’ll find 25 rides and admission is free—you only pay for the rides you wish to enjoy.

3 - Zip zip hurray

It turns out that roller coasters aren’t the only way to “fly” in Vegas. Thrill seekers from all over the world strap into harnesses and zip line the day away.

Slotzilla Zip Line – Fremont Street, Downtown Las Vegas

Tourists flock to Fremont Street to get a taste of classic downtown Las Vegas, and the Slotzilla Zip Line gives you the perfect excuse to venture off of The Strip. This attraction will appease both you the adrenaline junkie and your less adventurous friends because they offer two options for riding.  You can choose the 11-story high zip line that enables you to fly outstretched like your favorite superhero for five city blocks. And, those less brave can opt for the 7-story, two-block long zip line that allows them to sit upright in the harness.

Practice Voodoo

If 11 stories are not lofty enough a zip line for you, practice Voodoo at the Rio Hotel—the Voodoo Zip Line, that is.  You’ll start 50 stories high at the Masquerade Tower and zip 30 stories downward to the 20-story Ipanema Tower. Then, you’ll be pulled backward back up to the Masquerade Tower. If that sounds a little scary even to your brave soul, don’t worry, the zip line accommodates two people so you can take a friend along to hold your hand.

4 - High in the sky

I saved the most thrilling of attractions in Las Vegas for last—those that sit atop the Stratosphere. Look at the Vegas skyline, and you’ll see the Stratosphere commands the view. The 900-foot tower attracts droves of tourists each day. While many are content taking in the sweeping desert vistas, others choose to partake in the most thrilling rides in Las Vegas.

The Big Shot

Do you love freefall towers? I bet you’ve never ridden one that’s quite the same as The Big Shot. This ride straddles the apex of the Stratosphere. Riders strap in for the ride at 920 feet above the ground, get blasted upwards to 1080 feet, then plummet in a freefall back to the base of the ride.

Insanity

If that ride isn’t crazy enough, try Insanity. You board this ride at the 900 feet. A hydraulic arm extends the ride out over The Strip, tilts you until you are in a semi-downward position, and spins you around. You ride in a circular motion dangling high above the ground below.

SkyJump

Have you ever wanted to try a death-defying jump off of a building? You can do just that with the SkyJump.  Here is how it works. You harness up and get secured to a system of pulleys, step to the edge of the Stratosphere tower, and step off. The ride is part freefall and part controlled jump, with a cable system that controls your descent, so you don’t bottom out too hard.
