시계바늘아 달려봐(Run, clock hands)

츠츠이 야스타카가 집필한 소설 「시간을 달리는 소녀」(이하 「시달소」)는 2006년에 제작된 극장 애니메이션 <시간을 달리는 소녀>의 원작 소설이다. 아마 극장 애니메이션에 비해 소설은 유명하지 않을 지도 모른다.

"그런데 말이야. 과학이라는 것은 불확실한 것을 확실한 것으로 하는, 그 과정의 학문이야. 따라서 과학이 발전하기 위해서는 그 전단계로서, 언제나 불확실하고 불가사의한 현상이 없으면 안 되지."

소설 「시달소」가 다루는 공상과학적 소재로는 신체이동(텔레포테이션)과 시간여행(타임리프), 타임 패러독스 등이 있다. 고등학생 소녀 '요시야마 가즈코'가 어떻게 시간여행 능력을 얻는지, 어떻게 시간을 여행하는지, 시간을 돌리면 과거의 자신을 만날 수 있는지에 대한 이야기를 풀어낸다.

(The novel 「The Girl Who Leapt Through Time」 is a science fiction novel dealing with teleportation, time-leap, and time paradox. It tells how the high school girl 'Kazuko Yoshiyama' gets time travel ability, how she travels time, and how she can meet herself if she returns the time.)

"미래에서 기다릴게. 꼭 기다릴게……."

「시달소」는 여기에 미래에서 온 소년과 현재를 살아가는 소녀의 사랑 이야기를 섞는다.
그러나 미래인은 미래의 이야기를 현대인에게 알려줘서는 안 되기에, 소년은 소녀의 기억을 지우고 사라진다.
기억이 사라진 소녀는 소년의 흔적 속에서 알 수 없는 그리움을 느끼며, 누군가를 기다리게 된다.

(The novel adds a love story of a boy from the future with a girl who lives in the present.
However, the boy should not let the modern man know the story of the future, so he erases the memory of the girl and disappears.
The girl, who has lost her memory, feels an old nostalgia in the trail he left behind and waits for someone.)

시간대가 다른 두 사람, 사라지는 기억, 사라진 기억에 대한 그리움.
작년에 개봉한 영화 중에서도 비슷한 소재를 쓴 작품이 있지 않았던가?
그 작품은 이미 예전 독후감에서 다룬 바가 있으니 설명을 생략하겠다.

시간을 달려서 어른이 될 수만 있다면(If only I could run through time and grow up)

그토록 소녀가 열심히 시간을 달렸건만, 정작 작가 본인이 시간을 달리지 못한다는 것을 망각한 채 망언을 해 주신 덕분에 국내에서는 모든 책이 말살형을 당하고 말았다.

(The girl could leap through time, but the writer forgot that he could not, and has made a reckless remark. so all the books were destroyed in Korea.)

불행 중 다행인 건, 애니메이션은 작가와 크게 상관없었기 때문에 지금도 케이블TV에서 이따금씩 상영해준다는 것 정도일까.

(Fortunately, the animations have nothing to do with the writer, so It is still on cable TV occasionally.)

「시간을 달리는 소녀」에는 단편 「악몽」과 「The Other World」가 같이 수록되어 있다.
「악몽」은 어렸을 적의 기억 때문에 공포증을 겪는 소녀의 성장기, 「The Other World」는 평행세계와 관련된 이야기다.
이제는 구할 수도 없게 된 책이긴 하지만, 그렇다고 스포일러를 죄다 줄줄 풀어버리는 건 작품이 불쌍하니 그만 두도록 하겠다.
