작년 말 2018년 1분기, 2분기 로드맵을 발표하였습니다. 현재 우리가 인지하다시피, 이를 달성하려면 더 시간을 들여 기술적인 면모를 조사하고 빨리 취해야할 조치들의 우선순위를 조정해야 합니다.
먼저, 저희는 바이트코인의 계획들을 리뷰하여 "긍정적인" 전략에서 "아주 자세한" 계획으로 전환하기로 결정하였습니다. 이 조치는 하드포크가 일어난 뒤 그 어떤 부작용도 일어나지 않게 하기 위해 필요한 조치를 취하는 데 목적이 있습니다. 주요 목표는 지난 5월 8일~10일 기간에 일어난 네트워크 지연사태를 예방하는 것입니다. 이러한 문제를 예방하기 위한 이상적인 도구 - 퍼블릭 테스트넷-이 있습니다. 전 세계 커뮤니티들이 업데이트된 시스템이 어떻게 운영되는지 이를 통해 확인해 볼 수 있을 것이고, P2P 프로토콜에서 하드포크 후 추가적인 업데이트를 만들지 않아도 될 것입니다.
또, 하드포크 연기의 다른 이유는, P2P 프로토콜이 동작하는 로직을 변경하는데 있습니다. P2P 프로토콜은 사실상 컨센서스의 일부입니다. 이는 분산화된 클라이언트들이 각자 커뮤니케이션 하는 언어입니다. 바이트코인 소프트웨어는 P2P를 사용하여 네트워크로 데이터를 브로드캐스팅 합니다. 현재 프로토콜은 개선이 필요한 몇몇 항목들을 가지고 있습니다. 신규 프로토콜은 더 나은 성능을 네트워크에 보장할 수 있도록 더욱 간소화 될 것입니다.
한 가지 더 중요하게 말씀드리고 싶은 것이 있습니다. 현재 아직도 구 버전(2.x.x)으로 남아있는 클라이언트의 양입니다. 이 버전들이 1년도 전에 발표되었음에도 불구하고 상당히 많은 유저들과 거래자들이(저희 추산에 의하면 약 19%) 아직도 이 버전들을 사용하고 있습니다. 저희는 이 부분이 네트워크 중단사태를 다시 야기할 수 있다고 보고 있기 떄문에, 한달내에 하드포크를 실시할 수 없다고 판단합니다. 저희가 시스템 성능에 대한 의무와 로드맵의 체크포인트를 적시에 이행해야 하는 선택 중 한가지를 선택해야 한다면, 저희는, 네트워크 중단사태를 다시 일어나지 않게 하고, 네트워크를 더욱 신뢰성있게 보살피는 쪽을 택할 것입니다.

Dear Community,
The Bytecoin Development Team has decided to make one more important announcement, which is actually a direct consequence of the events/actions that took place last week. We’ve tried to adopt this text for easy reading, however we’ll be able to give more technical details today, May 16th, at our AMA.
At the very end of the previous year we released the 2018 roadmap for the 1st and 2nd quarters of the year. Though as we see it now, to make it happen we need more time to investigate some additional technical aspects and change the order of the actions which need to be taken in the nearest time.
To begin with, we’ve reviewed our plans and have decided to switch from a “cautiously optimistic” strategy to a “very accurate” one. This is a necessary measure to avoid any kind of drawbacks after the hardfork is released. The main idea of this is to prevent the network lags which took place May 8th - 10th. And there’s an ideal tool to avoid such problems - public testnet. The entire community will be able to check how the updated system will operate and there will be no need to make additional updates after the hardfork in the P2P protocol.
The other reason for the delay is to change the logic on how the P2P protocol works. The P2P protocol is effectively a part of the consensus: it’s the language in which decentralized clients communicate with each other. Bytecoin software uses P2P to broadcast the data over the network. The current protocol contains some things that could be improved, while the new one will be simplified to provide the network with better performance.
One more essential thing that has to be mentioned is the amount of clients which are still staying on the old (2.x.x) versions. Despite the fact that these versions were released more than a year ago, quite a large amount of users and merchants (about 19% according to our estimates) are still using these versions. We can’t conduct a hardfork in a month because it may cause a network blackout again. In that case we have to choose between the responsibility for the system health and up-to-date checkpoint passing. Obviously, we won’t let another blackout happen and we will take care of the network’s credibility.

The bottom line is that we want to make our software more secure and more stable. Not just for us, but for our users and our community as a whole. We want to make Bytecoin the best it can possible be.
